Joe’s 54 mile Suie Classic Cycle for Prostate Scotland
We’d like to wish our supporter Joe McDowall all the best for Sunday when he sets off to cycle the route of the 54 mile Suie Classic Cycle Sportive in Aberdeenshire in aid of Prostate Scotland.
Joe and his colleagues at the Rotary Club of Inverurie have supported our work for many years. They’ve participated in the Rotary Rides for Prostate Cancer as part of the Great Inverurie Bike Ride, an event at which they have also previously fundraised and raised awareness of our cause.
The Suie Classic Cycle Sportive is part of the Great Inverurie Bike Ride. With new restrictions due to coronavirus introduced this week, this event is sadly cancelled. We’re delighted however that Joe will undertake a solo cycle of the route instead.
The 54 mile cycle is the longest and toughest route of the three events of the Great Inverurie Bike Ride. From Inverurie and back, it winds around quiet roads through the scenic Donside and Bennachie hill range. The total ascent of this tough challenge is 4,347 ft (1,324 metres).
Joe set himself the target of raising £750 “£10 for every one his youthful years!” We’re thrilled that with Gift Aid, he has raised £755! We’re grateful to receive his continued support, and that of the Rotary Club of Inverurie, which is of significant help to us as we take forward our work to tackle prostate cancer and disease. We appreciate the enthusiasm with which he has tackled his fundraising and training for this challenge and wish him all the best for Sunday!
Virtual fundraising ideas
Whether you’d like to get active in autumn while supporting Prostate Scotland, or would prefer to do a fundraising activity from home, head to these pages:
- Prost80: virtual fundraising ideas
- The Edinburgh Marathon Festival Virtual Challenge – a great challenge if you have taken up running during lockdown or if you are a keen runner and have missed your usual races this year
- Big Blue Thank You – a new virtual event from the organisers of the Edinburgh Marathon, Men’s10K and Supernova taking place throughout 2020
We’ve also compiled some ideas that take up less time and effort but can still raise awareness or some money for our cause.
Information on coronavirus and prostate cancer
We’ve developed a series of online documents on COVID-19 and prostate cancer to help provide information and support for men and their families at this difficult time. Our full range of information and awareness materials is also available in the Resources section of our website.
