The Big Match- North Berwick golf day in aid of Prostate Scotland
On Friday 27th March, Dougie Spencer and Iain Gardner kicked off their first fundraising event for Dougie and Iain’s Big Match with a golf day hosted by Tantallon Golf Club over the historic North Berwick links. The duo raised an amazing £9119.70 for Prostate Scotland!
Read on to hear from Dougie and Iain on how the day went.
The competition…
The day involved a group of 48 golfers, divided into 2 teams, playing in the first leg of the ‘Big Match’. After they were fuelled by coffee and bacon rolls in the clubhouse, the 12 matches set off. Each pairing battled hard for a win. Quality golf displayed with birdies and eagles to air shots on putting greens. Local golf pro, Scott Gillies added to the entertainment taking on all-comers on the 10th tee. Most notable of those who did Beat the Pro was Liam Clachers.

Back to the club house…
Back in the clubhouse over a plate of chilli and the ‘King of Cheeseboards’, tales were told and the scores were tallied. Doug’s team took victory with the narrowest of wins. Like the Ryder Cup but closer and more civilised!
The raffle was then drawn with some generously donated prizes, raising another £750. Gregor Cranston shared his experiences of the work he does in the Prostate FFIT programme as a specialist cancer coach giving those gathered an insight into how the funds being raised can make a difference. Then followed the auction hosted by Alasdair Gardner, his professionalism tested as his wife bid boldly for a signed picture of Sir Chris Hoy.

All in all, it was a hugely successful day with every participant leaving with a smile on their face, and a better knowledge of the difference that Prostate Scotland can make.
Dougie and Iain would like to pass on a BIG thanks to those involved – the catering team at Tantallon Golf Club for the great food and drink, to Scott and the team at the North Berwick Pro Shop, raffle and auction prize donors and to all those who took part and donated to Prostate Scotland.
What’s Next?
The next of the series of events takes place on Friday 17th April when they will taking to the greens at Boat of Garten Golf Club. In June, the pair will set out to achieve their target of 100 holes in a day. You can visit their Just Giving page for more information and view the great prizes still up for grabs in the silent auction.
Thank you to Dougie and Iain for their incredible support fundraising in aid of our work!
