Support Prostate Scotland and Run with us for the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2027.

The second largest UK Marathon, Edinburgh Marathon Festival is a fantastic running event with a friendly and celebratory atmosphere. Known for its flat terrain, this course was voted the fastest marathon in the UK by Runners World, making it ideal for your first marathon, or any attempts at personal bests.

Nearly 1 in 2 men in Scotland will be affected by prostate disease at some stage in their life. If you’re over 50, or if your Dad or brother has had prostate diseases, or if you’re black, you’re at an even higher risk. Run with Prostate Scotland and help us continue our vital work supporting those affected by prostate diseases.

The Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2027 takes place on the 29th and 30th May.

  • Saturday 29th: 5K and 10K events, held in Holyrood Park at the foothill of Arthur’s Seat
  • Sunday 30th: Edinburgh MarathonHalf Marathon and Relay, starting in the city centre and finishing in Musselburgh

We look forward to greeting you in the Charity Village at the finish line! We’ll have drinks, snacks, a warm welcome, and a thank you ready for you.

How To Run With Us:

Charity Place:

We buy charity places available free of charge when you run in aid of Prostate Scotland in all adult EMF events.

The sponsorship you raise will help us to take forward our work ensuring that even more men and their families can receive information and support on prostate issues. You can read more about our work here.

We ask you to pledge to fundraise:

  • Marathon: £650
  • Half Marathon: £350
  • Team Relay: £500 (£125 each person)
  • 5k: £88
  • 10k: £150

This covers the cost of your place and merchandise, along with a donation on top to help us continue our crucial work supporting those with prostate issues. We are keen to offer charity places to runners for free – it’s important to us that our fundraisers enjoy their running challenge, and not worry about fundraising targets that could be difficult to meet. Where you’ll be running…

Starting at the University of Edinburgh you’ll pass many iconic landmarks, going past iconic symbols of Edinburgh’s Old Town before running along Princes Street Gardens and past the towering Gothic Scott Monument. You’ll swing back to the Old Town, going down the Royal Mile, past the current Holyrood Parliament and the historic Holyrood Palace, before running through Holyrood Park under the watchful gaze of Arthur’s Seat. It races by Meadowbank Sports Stadium, famed scene of Commonwealth Games glory for runners like Liz McColgan.

It then turns north towards Portobello Promenade for some bracing seaside air before reaching Musselburgh Racecourse. If you’re running the Half Marathon route you’ll head into the playing fields at Pinkie St Peter’s Primary School. Marathon and Relay runners will run on to Prestonpans, passing Cockenzie and Port Seton. It then races on along Scotland’s golf coast, boasting 22 courses, including some of the world’s oldest and most admired courses at Gullane and Muirfield. The route reaches the village of Longniddry before looping around Gosford House, and heading back past Musselburgh Links, the famous golf course officially recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest golf course in the world.

The marathon finishes in playing fields at Pinkie St Peter’s Primary School.  This is where you’ll get a chance to rest and recuperate while taking in more of the friendly festival atmosphere. You can enjoy some time in Musselburgh, or catch a bus back to the city when you’re ready – here are all the transport options.
