Cap 1215 Challenge: Ken’s 1,000-Mile Cycling Journey to Give Back

Ken Macaulay, a 66-year-old former rugby player and coach, was recently awarded a retrospective international cap by the Scottish Rugby Union for a match he played in 1980. Inspired by this honour, Ken is embarking on the “Cap 1215 Challenge,” where he will cycle over 1,000 miles to visit 76 rugby clubs across Scotland where he played during his 30-season career. This journey aims to raise funds for four charities, and Prostate Scotland is one of the benefitting charities.

Ken said, “I was proud to be one of the many beneficiaries of the SRU’s retrospective cap initiative earlier this year and this has not only inspired me to give something back but also as a token of appreciation for everything rugby has given me.

I am going to try and visit every rugby club/pitch in Scotland on which I played during a career that spanned 30 seasons of league rugby which I reckon there are 76 places to visit.’’

Supporting Four Charities Through the Cap 1215 Challenge

The four charities Ken chose mean to him personally, including Murrayfield Injured Players Foundation, Prostate Scotland, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. Also, Ken welcomes any support for his challenge, including help with promotion, securing sponsors, volunteer assistance along the route, and donations of necessary supplies.
