1 June 2009 - Runners go the extra mile for Prostate Scotland in Edinburgh Marathon

37 runners from across Scotland as well as from Germany took to the streets of Edinburgh and East Lothian on Sunday 31st May to run in the Edinburgh Marathon for Prostate Scotland.

The runners raised a huge amount for the charity- well over £7,500 and the final total is likely to be much more as donations and sponsorship are still coming in. In addition one of the relay teams Prostate 04 succeeded in coming fourth overall out of the 4000 relay teams and second in the mixed team event.

All the runners did magnificently, despite it being the hottest day of the year and blazing sunshine. There were runners representing nearly every part of Scotland including from Aberdeen, Beauly, Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Wallyford. There were also six runners from Germany. Many of the runners were tackling the marathon for the first time and despite the heat recorded very good times.

Adam Gaines Director of Prostate Scotland said: 'We would like to sincerely thank all the runners for their amazing efforts - they have raised a huge amount for the charity, and their efforts have succeeded as well in creating huge publicity for the cause of prostate disease and for Prostate Scotland. We would like to congratulate them on their achievements and to thank them for having gone the extra mile for Prostate Scotland'
