Symptom Relief

For some men with advanced prostate cancer, particularly older men, forms of treatment may not be appropriate or have been tried, or where a process of active watchfulness has been adopted due to shorter life expectancy, there may be a need to consider relief of symptoms of the cancer such as pain, tiredness or nausea. 

For some men where the cancer is very advanced, palliative care will need to be considered. This will be aimed at making sure that you are comfortable and that where there may be pain that this is minimised, and to also assist you to be able to stay at home. Specialist palliative care teams exist to assist you in this process. There are also often specialist nurses to assist you.

In some cases you may also be offered particular treatments to assist you such as radiotherapy, or drugs to alleviate the pain. There are also complementary therapies to assist you such as relaxation.
