There are a number of different treatments for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)and the most common are set out on the links to the left hand side.
Unless symptoms are troubling, an enlarged prostate is not usually reason enough to consider treatment. Your doctors may decide on watchful waiting, in which the patient is examined periodically to check the status of his prostate. Sometimes symptoms may lessen without active treatment. Watchful waiting is not about inactive waiting, but about checking the progress of the patient, monitoring his condition and later intervening with other treatment should this be necessary. During watchful waiting the doctor may also opt to undertake urine and/or a PSA test as part of the monitoring.
