Runners beat the wind and rain to shine in Edinburgh Marathon in aid of Prostate Scotland

28 runners from across Scotland took to the streets of Edinburgh and East Lothian on Sunday 22nd May braving very windy and rainy conditions to run in the Edinburgh Marathon and Half Marathon in aid of Prostate Scotland. The runners raised a huge amount for the charity - well over £10,000 and the final total is likely to be more as donations and sponsorship are still coming in.

There were runners from right across Scotland including from Aberdeen, Bathgate, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Kirkcaldy and Strathaven, Many of the runners were tackling the marathon for the first time. The runners included Billy Wait, a fire-fighter from Bathgate, who ran the entire marathon in fire-fighters gear, and John Fulham who was completing the second of three marathons in five months for Prostate Scotland, having already run the London Marathon and who will soon be tackling the Dublin race. There were also several relay teams taking part in aid of Prostate Scotland, including two teams which included doctors and nurses, as well as a team called the 4NonBlondes who set a strong fundraising pace.

Adam Gaines Director of Prostate Scotland said: 'We would like to warmly thank all the runners for their amazing efforts - they have raised a huge amount for the charity, and they have also succeeded in raising the profile of prostate disease, prostate cancer and also of Prostate Scotland. We would like to congratulate each and every one of them on their achievements and to thank them for having run their socks off in the cause-they are amazing.
