Prostate Scotland would like to sincerely thank everyone who has undertaken fundraising activities in aid of us. There are a range of fundraising activities being undertaken at any one time in aid of Prostate Scotland. Recent ones include:
• Edinburgh Marathon – There were 26 runners who kindly ran in aid of Prostate Scotland in the Edinburgh Marathon, and Edinburgh Marathon Festival Half-Marathon raising over £11,000 for Prostate Scotland in May 2011. If you are interested in running in aid of us at next year's Edinburgh Marathon which is on 27th May 2012 please contact Adam Gaines at fundraise@prostatescotland.org.uk
In 2011 participants included relay teams from The Royal Highland Agricultural Society of Scotland,the Four Non-Blondes, the Dalmeny Dribblers and the Crewe Toll Plumbers(who finished 3rd in the mixed competition and 9th overall!). Individual runners included Barry Chambers, Billy Mathieson, Billy Waite, Claire Laidlaw, Daniel Forbes, John Fulham. Jenna Ewing also completed the Half Marathon.
• Marathon des Sables – Tim Appleton and David Caira ran in the famous and very tough 5 day Marathon des Sables across the Sahara desert in April in aid of Spifox and Prostate Scotland raising over £6207.
• Mount Kilimanjaro- Joy Hooks undertook the arduous task of scaling Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of her brother Tom, who sadly passed way from prostate cancer. Her amazing effort has raised over £4396
• Johnston Smillie Luncheon - Longstanding Prostate Scotland supporters Edinburgh based accountants and business services company Johnston Smillie organised a third special luncheon in aid of Prostate Scotland, raising over £4,000.
• Edinburgh to Stirling Team Cycle - Jim Sutherland and 13 colleagues raised the huge sum of £3064 through undertaking a team cycle event from Edinburgh via Falkirk to Stirling and back.
• A team of eight cycle riders called Equipe Prostate undertook a round Scotland cycle ride raising over £3,500. To read an article about their ride click on the link http://www.cycling-books.com/Teamwork_Is_The_Key_Tim_Dawson.htm
• Glasgow Womens 10 K saw Caroline Miller, Claire Wilson, Sue O'Hara, Claire Robinson and Julie McCorquodale ran together as a team. Christine Turnbull and Annie Macleod also took part in the run. Altogther the seven runners raised the immense amount of well over £2700
• ADT Edinburgh Half Marathon. Nicola Lucas, Jamie Smith, David Morrison, Philip Tervit all completed the Edinbugh Half Marathon in April 2011 raising over £1345
•Prostate Cancer Awareness Event - Jeni Brown Hairstyling and team organised an awareness event and raised the massive sum of £2500, which was shared equally between Prostate Scotland and Prostate Cancer Support Scotland West Lothian Group
• Lands End to John O'Groats Cycle- Ken Grigor took on the immense task of cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats raising over £1197
• Ship Inn in Newburgh - Nicky Barrie, Claire Wilson and several other colleagues from the Ship Inn in Newburgh in Fife organised a special race night in the pub followed by darts and dominoes the next day which raised over £1700
• Five Marathons - John Fulham this year run the London and Edinburgh Marathons with the Dublin Marathon to come in October raising over £1300. Last year he ran the Loch Ness and Edinburgh Marathons - raising over £pound;1122 .
• William (Sonny) Kennedy Swimathon - The very kind and energetic William Kennedy Swimathon Team organised and swam a third special swimathon in aid of Prostate Scotland raising some £1019
• Moray Half-Marathon- Debbie Paterson and Karen Norvell ran the Moray Half-marathon raising a massive £600
• Paisley 10K - Iain Littler ran the race in aid of Prostate Scotland and raising a huge £600
• Northern Cyclone - Andrew Mencnarowski took on the cycling challenge of the Northern Cyclone completing over 105 miles in one day raising over £360
• Treble run - Virgin London Marathon, Edinburgh Marathon and Sir Chris Hoy Half Marathon - Gerry Gallagher recentlty took on all three and along with Sarah Whalen who ran the Sir Chris Hoy Half Marathon raised £481
• Virgin London Marathon - Leigh Kinnear ran the Virgin London Marathon raising the grand total of £442
• Macmillan Etape Caledonia - Iain McDonald rode the the tough race of 82 miles round Perthshire and up Schiehallion raising £215
In November 2009 there were several generous donations in aid of Prostate Scotland. These included donations from:
•16 Officers from Greenock Prison, who all grew moustaches for the month and raised a massive £1192.
• Katia Ratta and Donna McPhie from Glasgow who wore moustaches for the month and were supported by customers from Cafe Katia in Glasgow raising an amazing £400
• Members of Shawlands Academy Staff 5-a side football team grew moustaches raising £341
• The Landy Boys raised £271.25 in not only growing moustaches, but also getting their hair cut and coloured to match
