Many people in planning for the future make a will, in order to ensure that provision can made for family, partners or friends. This can be an important step, but one that is often overlooked. However, these days making a will has been made easier, with a number of will-making packs available to enable you to draw up your own will, as well as straightforward procedures being available via solicitors. Some people, when drawing up a will, also like to consider making gifts to causes or charities related to their interests, as a positive step to enable their interests to be taken forward in the future.
Leaving a legacy to Prostate Scotland can be a positive way of continuing to support people with prostate disease. If you are considering leaving a gift to charity, and once you have ensured that you have made provision for your family/partner and others who are close to you, there are 2 ways to do so – through what is known as a ‘pecuniary bequest’ or a ‘residual bequest.' A pecuniary bequest is a gift of a set amount, whilst a residual bequest is a gift of part or all of the remainder your estate, once all or other bequests, such as to family or close friends, have been settled and concluded.
